Our board recently deliberated on our stance regarding the Voice referendum. They unanimously resolved to support two key principles:
Supporting the Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Our commitment to this pivotal statement underscores our dedication to recognising and valuing the cultures and wisdom of our First Nations peoples.
Endorsing the YES Vote in the Voice Referendum:
We firmly believe that a First Nation’s Voice to Parliament is a crucial stride towards better policy decisions. By welcoming the voices of Indigenous communities, we enhance our industry's ability to incorporate diverse perspectives into outdoor activities.
The outdoors has always been a space of connection and shared experiences, transcending boundaries and bringing people together. We have seen the positive effects of incorporating Indigenous voices into our sector, and we anticipate that a First Nation’s Voice to Parliament will bolster the inclusion of First Nations viewpoints in critical policy areas, such as environmental protection and land management.
Our advocacy for the YES vote is about striving for an Australia that grows stronger through unity and understanding. When we champion the rights and voices of Indigenous people, we pave the way for more equitable and informed policy outcomes, which ultimately benefit all Australians.

Excerpt from the Board Resolution;
The Outdoor Industry values the cultures and knowledge of First Nations peoples. As an industry, we have experienced the mutual benefits that flow from including their voices to inform outdoor activities. We believe that a First Nation’s Voice to Parliament will further strengthen the inclusion of First Nations perspectives in key policy areas such as the Environment and Land Management. We also believe that a First Nation’s voice to parliament has the potential to improve policy outcomes for First Nations people across the board, which will in turn benefit all Australians.
It is for these reasons that Outdoors NSW & ACT advocate for a Yes vote.
